During Step 5: Add items in onboarding, you can add your first catalog item without importing a spreadsheet. Choose the Build manually route to create one item directly in MENO.

Create the item

Complete the item form using the normal MENO item model. Name and price are required to create the onboarding item. Add a clear name that customers will recognize, then enter its base price.

The other available fields are optional. Depending on what you need for the item, you can add details such as a description, media, categories, tags, availability, variations, option groups, optional extras, recommended pairings, or pricing details. Restaurant workspaces can also use the restaurant-specific item fields for calories and allergens.

Use only the information you are ready to publish in your catalog. You can continue onboarding after the item has been created.

This onboarding step creates one item

The manual route in onboarding is designed to create one item. After you successfully complete the Add Items step—whether you created an item manually or imported items from Excel—going back to this step will not let you create another onboarding item.

Instead, MENO shows a success state confirming that the item creation or import step has already been completed. This is expected behavior and applies only to the onboarding step.

Add more items later

The one-item limit does not apply to the normal Items page. After onboarding, use the regular catalog workflow to create additional items manually or add items through the Excel import flow. Your first item remains part of the workspace catalog and can later be used in menus and organized with categories and tags.
