MENO uses a shared workspace catalog: Workspace → Outlets → Menus → Categories → Items. Create items in the shared catalog, then use menus, availability, and—where configured—outlet-specific pricing to tailor how they are used by outlets.
Create an item
Create an item manually from the Items area and complete the information that applies to it:
- Name and description: Add a clear item name and description.
- Media: You can add multiple media assets, including photos and video. Where a cover is used, the first media asset is the cover.
- Pricing: Choose the pricing setup that fits the item. An item can have a single base/default price, variation-based pricing, and a sale price. Outlet or menu-specific custom pricing can also be configured where supported.
- Organization: Assign categories and tags, and set availability. SKU or specification-related information can be used where relevant.
Use a sale price when you need to show an active discounted price. In the customer experience, the previous price is shown struck through and the active sale price is highlighted.
Add choices and related items
Use reusable catalog structures to configure item choices:
- Variations can provide variation-based pricing.
- Required option groups require the customer to make a selection before adding the item. A required choice can affect the price where configured.
- Optional extras or add-ons are not mandatory. Customers may select them, and paid extras add their configured price to the item. An item can have multiple optional groups.
- Recommended pairings let you reference other items as complementary recommendations.
Keep required option groups and optional extras distinct. Required groups prevent the item from being added until the required choice is made; optional extras do not.
Organize the item for menus
Assign an item to one or more categories as needed. An item assigned to multiple categories appears under every assigned category in customer-facing menus. Categories can support menu navigation and filtering. If a category has an image, it can appear as a visual separator or header; without an image, the category name appears without a category image. Where applicable, uncategorized items can appear in an Other grouping.
Tags help organize the catalog and can also be used for customer-facing filtering. Tag filtering is group-aware: selections in one tag group can constrain the valid tags shown from other groups so incompatible combinations are not presented as if they would return results.
Complete Restaurant item details
Restaurant workspaces include two additional item fields:
- Calories: Enter the item’s calorie value as a simple numeric/value field. MENO does not calculate calories from variations and does not link the value to option groups.
- Allergens: Select applicable allergens from MENO’s predefined allergen list. Custom allergens are not available. MENO handles translated allergen display across its current 24-language system, so you do not need to translate each selected allergen manually.
Manage existing items
When reviewing an existing item, update the relevant catalog information: content and media, pricing, variations or option groups, extras, recommended pairings, categories, tags, availability, and Restaurant calories or allergens where applicable. Check the item’s menu and outlet use separately, because outlets consume the shared catalog through menu composition, availability, and supported outlet-specific pricing.
