MENO uses a customer’s verified phone number as their primary customer identity. Verification happens through a one-time password (OTP) sent on WhatsApp. This identity is used across the MENO customer experience, rather than being tied to just one order, outlet, or merchant.

When customers verify their phone number

A customer who is not logged in is redirected to phone verification when they proceed to checkout. They enter their phone number, receive a verification code through WhatsApp, and enter the code to verify it. After verification succeeds, they can continue with checkout.

The order is not created by WhatsApp. Phone verification is part of the MENO checkout flow; WhatsApp is the channel used to send the verification code.

What the verified number is used for

The verified number is the customer’s current MENO identity. Stored customer information, including saved addresses and orders, is associated with that verified phone identity.

For merchants, this means the phone number that a customer verifies identifies the customer in MENO. It is separate from any additional contact number a customer may choose to provide for an individual order.

At checkout, customers can select either their verified number or a different phone number as the order contact phone. A different contact number does not need OTP verification. The original verified number remains the customer’s MENO identity even when a different contact number is used for the order.

Verification applies across MENO outlets

After a customer verifies or logs in in a browser, their MENO customer session remains active in that browser. The session is global across MENO, not limited to the outlet or merchant where the customer first verified.

For example, if a customer later visits a MENO outlet from another shop or restaurant in the same browser, their active session remains available. Stored MENO customer data can be reused across the customer experience.

A customer’s order history is not a global list across every outlet. The My Orders area shows orders for the outlet the customer is currently viewing.

Changing the verified phone number

Changing the verified identity number changes the customer identity context. The customer is logged out or asked to authenticate again as needed.

Data linked to the earlier verified phone number is not moved to the new number. As a result, saved addresses and orders from the previous identity will not appear under the new phone identity; they remain associated with the previous verified number.

Logging out

When a customer logs out, their customer session ends. If authentication is needed again, MENO directs them back to the phone OTP/login flow.

Customer profile details

In the MENO customer profile, the account area shows the customer’s identity, name, and verified phone number. Customers can edit profile and contact information through the profile form. Any change to the verified phone number follows the identity rules above, including the separate data context for the newly verified number.
