Payment methods control the choices MENO can show to customers during checkout for your outlet. Configure choices that match the payment arrangements your business can carry out with customers, because choosing a method in MENO does not complete the payment.
Payment choices customers can see
MENO can show merchant-configured payment-method choices including:
- Cash on Delivery
- Credit / Debit Card
- Pay via Link
When a customer selects a payment method, the selection identifies their intended method for that order. It is recorded as part of the MENO order and displayed to the merchant.
What happens when an order is placed
The customer selects a payment method as part of checkout, then places the order in MENO. MENO creates the order before the customer is prompted to open WhatsApp. The selected payment method is included in the order information that the merchant can view.
You can also see the recorded payment-method choice with the other order details, such as the order type, bill summary, and customer information. The customer-facing order overview can display the payment-method choice as well.
Payment methods are order information, not payment processing
The selected payment method is order metadata only. MENO does not currently process the transaction between you and the customer, even when the customer selects Credit / Debit Card or Pay via Link.
Payment collection and card interaction take place between your business and the customer outside MENO. The same applies to payment links, refunds, and settlement. For example, selecting Pay via Link records the customer’s choice on the order; it does not make MENO the payment gateway for that order.
Match choices to your payment process
Before making a payment method available, make sure your team has a clear way to handle it outside MENO:
- For Cash on Delivery, collect payment directly from the customer according to your delivery or pickup process.
- For Credit / Debit Card, handle the card payment directly with the customer outside MENO.
- For Pay via Link, handle the payment link and collection directly with the customer outside MENO.
Use the payment-method choice to understand how the customer expects to pay, then complete the payment separately. Once an order has been placed, the order details cannot be edited in the merchant dashboard; only the order status can be changed. If the payment arrangement changes, coordinate the payment directly with the customer outside MENO.
